JUNIOR
SAILING PROGRAM
Mission
The mission of the Westlake Yacht Club is to support junior sailors
in their experience of the joy of sailing, the development of their
recreational and competitive sailing skills, and their growth as Corinthian
sailors. The Westlake Junior Yacht Club works with its members and
the members of the Senior Yacht Club to promote sportsmanship and
teamwork. Most importantly the Westlake Junior Yacht Club is dedicated
to developing sailors who will enjoy the many aspects of the sport
throughout their lives.
Sabot Racing
Our certified instructors use US Sabots for instruction. The club
will provide the boats, however individuals are encourage to have
their own boats which can be used later for regatta competition. The
US Sabot is an 8ft. single-handed dinghy.
Students must have basic swimming skills, but must nonetheless supply
and wear a life jacket.
Not Day-care or Summer Camp
As always, our goal is to develop enthusiastic, competent sailors,
with sufficient confidence and proficiency to sail competitively in
the numerous regattas held throughout the year. Yacht clubs that host
US Sabot regattas include Westlake, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Marina
Del Rey and King Harbor. CFJ’s and Laser classes are used in
both highs school and college level competition. Graduates of our
junior sailing program progress into larger boats as their age and
skills increase.
